General information that may answer your
questions about treatment with the IPL.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us by phone, by using the enquiry form, or calling in
for a chat with the doctor or our clinical team.
Q. Does the treatment hurt?
Any discomfort during the treatment is limited to an extremely short pulse which clients report as feeling
like a rubber band snap. This may range from mild to moderate and
does not last long. A burning sensation may last for up to one hour, for which a cold compress or ice pack may be used.
Q. How well will my skin heal following laser treatment?
The skin should be treated gently for a few days following treatment. Apply any creams or makeup gently and do not rub. Makeup may be applied immediately after treatment as long as the skin is not broken. If this should occur, the doctor will prescribe antibiotic cream. There is the slight possibility of developing a crust or blister. This is superficiial, does not result in scarring and is treated like sunburn or any other blister.
Q. Will there be any pigment changes to my skin?
In most cases, the treated areas heal without any pigment changes. However, hyper-pigmentation (darker) or hypo-pigmentation (lighter) areas may occur, but these are temporary and will fade within 1-6 months. It is very important that you avoid exposure to the sun following laser treatment, as this may intensify hyper-pigmentation. It is rare for a change to be permanent.
Q. Will I experience any swelling?
This occurs occasionally after treatment, especiqlly if the face has been treated. It is temporary and not harmful and cold packs or hydrocortisone preparation will help to reduce it.
Q. Will there be any bruising?
Again, this is rare, but should it occur, it will clear in 4-7 days. As the purple bruise fades, there may be a brownish stain which will resolve with time, usually within 3 months.
Prior to your first treatment, the doctor will assess your skin's suitability for laser and we always begin with a spot test as a further safety measure.

Yes! Scientific studies show EpiLight's unique Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology actually damages or destroys hair follicles at the cell level.
Q. I have very sensitive skin, and I haven't been able to use most other hair removal techniques. Will IPL work on my skin too?
The wavelength range of IPL provides unrivaled flexibility, enabling treatment to be customized according to an individual's precise skin condition . IPL for Veins
Q. I've had other treatments for varicose and spider veins and the problem comes back over time. Does IPL offer a permanent solution for these conditions?
A. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser system provides complete and virtually permanent closure of damaged and ruptured veins, both large and small, near the surface and further below it. Since the vein is completely closed, blood cannot flow back into it; consequently, over time the vein simply disintegrates and is absorbed by the body. Other treatment types may not produce this complete vein closure. Be aware however, that patients may develop varicose veins in other areas as time passes.
Q. My doctor explained that the broken capillaries, flushing and little pimples I have on my face are associated with a skin disorder called rosacea. Can IPL help me?
A. Experts have found IPL treatments to be very effective in minimizing the vascular symptoms associated with rosacea. Your entire face, chest and neck areas can generally be treated without anesthesia or significant side effects.
Q. I spend a lot of time outdoors, so I usually have a pretty good tan. Can I still be treated with the IPL laser?
A. One of the advances of the Lumenis One® system is its ability to treat virtually all skin types and colors, at any time of the year. This is due to its long, near-infrared laser wavelength that easily passes through the melanin, the material that gives color to the skin.
