Beauty clinic for chaps

A BEAUTY clinic is to hold men-only sessions to cater for the city's growing band of "metrosexual" males.

Style icons like David Beckham have removed the stigma attached to men who care too much about their appearance and have led to a boom in male grooming.

Now Manchester has its own "metrosexual" man - defined as an "urban male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle."

And a Didsbury beauty clinic is offering men-only sessions so that the male of the species does not feel self-conscious about getting some cutting-edge cosmetic beauty treatments.

The Pioneer Clinic is launching the male-only clinic session on the first Thursday of every month.

Treatments

It is offering treatments such as laser hair removal, treatment for facial redness and injections for such conditions as excess sweating and more. A male doctor will carry out the treatments.

Dr William Ncube, director of the Pioneer Clinic, said: "The number of male clients coming through our doors has swelled in the past year and 15 per cent of our total client base is now male.

"But there are still an awful lot of men out there who feel self-conscious about undergoing cosmetic treatments, so we hope an all-male environment will help them feel more at ease."

The treatments can cost anything from £50 up to £2,500.

Treatments on offer include permanent hair reduction or removal, laser treatment to remove broken capillaries, and fine line injections that work in a similar way to muscle relaxant.

Manager Bernadette Shields Laxton said: "We get actors, footballers, male models, and even solicitors and salesmen. If you work in front of the public it is important to look good."
