Teeth Whitening
“Smile and the world smiles
with you”
How Does SmileQuest Work?
This procedure is only carried out by fully qualified B.I.T.E accredited Smile
Therapist. The gel is activated by laser light. The laser light source allows
the peroxide to decompose and penetrate the enamel, a lot deeper and a lot faster,
than would be the case otherwise. This procedure is carried out in 10-minute
applications.
After 10 minutes of exposure to saliva, air and laser light, the
peroxide reduces in concentration and does not work as effectively. The full
treatment normally consists of an average three 10 minute applications. This
can take approximately 1 hour to complete. The results are dramatic and clients
can achieve up to 10 shades lighter.
Does Teeth Whitening Really Work?
This is a common question that is asked. The surface of the teeth contains millions
of microscopic pores and over time, organic compounds from food, fizzy drinks,
tea, coffee and tobacco etc, settle into these pores and cause discolouration
of the tooth enamel.
Almost all natural teeth respond to the process. However, there are some individuals’ teeth
that may take longer than others to whiten, such as those with tetracycline antibiotic
staining.
How Does The Whitening Gel Actually Whiten Teeth?
The main ingredient in all teeth products is hydrogen peroxide. This hydrogen
peroxide turns into water and oxygen, which penetrates the enamel and almost
all types of stains are lifted out of the porous enamel. Results of testing and
measured results are indisputable.
In short, the SmileQuest teeth-whitening laser
activates the whitening gel and it is in this activated state that it releases
the oxygen into the teeth and the whitening process begins. The SmileQuest laser
light accelerates the whitening process.
Will Teeth Whitening Hurt The Soft Tissue (Gums)?
People with periodontal disease, (gum disease), or excessive caries, (cavities),
should be treated for those conditions, or services. The active ingredient in
the gel itself is safe, but prolonged sensitivity to the soft tissue, (gums),
does occur - more than 24 – 48 hours – it typically flags an existing
problem not normally associated with the whitening product itself but rather
with the dental or oral hygiene of the person using the product. In such cases
the client should consult their dentist.
Will Teeth Whitening Damage The Enamel?
Research data shows there is no risk to the enamel of the teeth, other than the
advised 24 – 48 hours temporary sensitivity.
Are There Any Side Effects?
A small percentage of users experience increased sensitivity to hot and cold,
or minor gum irritations. These symptoms usually subside within 24 – 48
hours after the whitening process.
Does Whitening Work on Veneers, Crowns, Bridges, and Fillings?
The whitening products and services will not crowns, veneers, bridges, fillings.
However, they will clean them to their original colour. Nevertheless, it must
be noted, that the users own teeth may become whiter than the colour of their
veneers, crowns, bridges, fillings and these may need replacing.
How Long Will The Results Last?
This depends on the system that is used. The SmileQuest laser light procedure
will stay noticeably whiter for 18 – 24 months. However, periodic touch-ups,
one ten minute SmileQuest laser treatment, usually every 6-12 months, should
be performed to keep the smile at it’s brightest. In addition teeth whitening
trays can be used to maintain the results.
Who Can Benefit From Teeth Whitening?
Almost anyone over 18 years, who have his or her own natural teeth, wishing a
more confident vibrant smile. However pregnant ladies, or nursing mothers should
contact their doctor before using any teeth whitening products.
